St Chinian Domaine des Jougla
St Chinian Domaine des Jougla
The Jougla family can be traced back as owning the property
since 1595. The property lies between 95 and 107 metres above sea
level in a hot dry Mediterranean climate, two thirds of the vines
situated on foliated shale rock and the remainder on alluvial clay
soil. Yields never exceed 40 hl/ha.
The cellar is modern and immaculate. They use a pneumatic press and
then ferments his wines at a temperature of 28°, the cuvaison
lasting between 15 and 20 days, using a combination of both cement
and stainless steel tanks.
Les Tuileries is made from a blend of Grenache Blanc, Viognier
with a yield as small as 25 hl/ha and Vermentino, making for
a delicious aromatic white wine. Initiale is a blend of Grenache,
Syrah, Carignan and Mourvedre and shows the true character of the
fine terroir from which the fruit comes. Laurence Jougla, ably
assisted by her brother Alexandre and father Alain, is doing quite
amazing work here. Top St Chinian.
